The architectural process begins with an introductory meeting with you, the client, to begin imagining what the project will encompass. Some clients bring a lot to the table, including sketches, photographs, or floor plan ideas; others may have only vague notions of what they might be looking for; and others who simply have a dream of building their own home.
Our primary focus is on the architect-client relationship. By fostering a comfortable environment, with open lines of communication, we can get to know you and your perspective. Occasionally a client will tell us what they want built without telling us what exactly it is for, or they will reject a floor plan without telling us why. We want to understand your thought process and motivation. Only then can we truly design for you and help you best realize your project. During the design process, we work rigorously to generate multiple schemes so that the clients can see many different possibilities. When we arrive at the solution for the project, you can have confidence that it is the result of a thoughtful and deliberate process. We also bring our extensive interest, experience, and background in sustainable architecture to that discussion.
After the design has essentially been set, we begin the process of assembling the construction documents. In our office, we view the construction documents as a communication tool to get the project built. We strive for a set of documents that is easy to understand - where the information that the builder needs is clearly stated and easy to find. When consultants, engineers, or other specialists are needed, we put together the right team that makes sense for the project.
We take pride in our work. We find beauty in the practical, and we strive to make our design decisions and the resulting drawings both thoughtful and straightforward.
