The program for this project included a bedroom suite addition, enclosing an existing screen porch, and a new garage addition. The owner wanted the remodel work to complement the existing historic home that was originally designed by Josias Joesler. In order to achieve this, we carefully studied and matched key details from the existing residence. In an effort to respect the existing architecture, we decided that the new garage should be detached from the historic residence and connected with a new front courtyard wall. The bedroom addition was built with an ICF wall material to mimic the existing massive adobe walls and to provide an excellent thermal envelope.
